Who we are

The Kuza Omuto Acitivity School combines the active learning of life skills and the Ugandan curriculum. After experiencing the quality of education and treatment of our sponsored kids at other schools, our directors Julia and Sam decided, that something had to change.

Out of that necessity, the Kuza Omuto Activity School was born. Since February 2024, the school has space for 180 children ages Kindergarten to P4. Together with our qualified teachers, we learn in an active way, in smaller classrooms.

Every day, our teachers decide, how we can learn the Ugandan curriculum, which is typically dry and full of cramming, in an active and fun way, so that the things we learn, will stick in our heads.

The school is part of our international NGO Kuza Omuto (local language for "let the little ones grow"), which works in a small village called Kinyamangi, approximately 15 km north of Fort Portal. Situated at the escarpment of the African Rift Valley, we are blessed with the best views in the world, a constant breeze and average temperatures of 25°C all year round.

Kuza Omuto started in 2023 as an organisation sponsoring vulnerable children, such as orphans or from families living below the poverty line. Our first year, we managed to find sponsorships in Europe for 20 children. In July 2023, we also started our day care for 1-4 years olds. 15 kids were able to come Monday to Friday, to learn, play and have a healthy breakfast.

Fast forward one year.

The Kuza Omuto Activity School opened its doors on 5th February 2024. Now, more tham 100 students learn in classes P1 to P4. We have 6 teachers and 5 support staff. Kuza Omuto supports 40 children to go to Primary school. Every one of these children receives materials, uniform, shoes, medical attention if needed, and a female goat to promote financial independence.

Volunteer with us

As an experienced Primary teacher, you will change the Ugandan curriculum in a way, that makes learning fun and exciting for our kids. You will think of outdoor activities, role plays and quizzes to make every school day a special one.

Living in our volunteer house on the school premises, you have your own little space, with a King Size bed and a Queen size sofa, your own kitchenette, bathroom, outdoor shower and a huge terrace. You can be part of our school lunch, cook your own meals or go to town or neighbouring villages for local and international food.

We can accommodate your wishes as to which subjects or age group you would like to teach. Currently we have classes 1 to 4 with children aged 5 to 15. In school, we learn English, Maths, Science, Religion, Literacy 1 and 2. You get the scheming materials of the Curriculum, picture and lesson books and the support from our teachers and directors.

You can volunteer with us for a minimum of 4 weeks (holiday programme), but ideally, you would stay for the length of a term (3 months) or the school year (February to end of November).
